SensoWash C with concealed connections.
New version of the shower-toilet seats with a beautifully honed design
Nothing is as thorough, as natural and as refreshing as cleaning with water, also after using the toilet. This is why, as a symbiosis of toilet and bidet, shower-toilets are becoming more and more popular. In Asia, this comfort is already standard in the bathroom and an increasing number of people in the western world are now discovering this wonderful feeling of cleanliness for themselves. A discreet and attractive design plays a key role. In 2010, bathroom manufacturer Duravit thus collaborated with star designer Philippe Starck on the SensoWash shower-toilet seat, which premieres outstanding design and washing comfort. Duravit is now taking another decisive step towards enhancing the aesthetics still further by introducing the SensoWash C with concealed cable and water connections. The design now harmonises better than ever with a timeless, modern bathroom architecture.
Innovative technology, impeccable design
Externally, Philippe Starck’s first design was all about maximum discretion. To ensure the continuous flow of the clear lines, the technical components were miniaturised so that the entire technology could fit between the ceramic body and the seat. The Hornberg-based bathroom manufacturer has now put its innovative strength to the test once again and concealed the electricity and water connections in the body. In keeping with Philippe Starck’s desire for a slim silhouette and timeless modernity, this further simplifies the elegant lines. The new solution with concealed connections can be combined with the Starck 2, Starck 3 and Darling New ranges. Thanks to the plug-in connectors for water and electricity, installation is quite easy. Furthermore, the system is compatible with the wall-mounted elements of all well-known manufacturers.
“SensoWash is one of our most promising business areas. We have thus further honed the design”, says Prof. Dr. Frank Richter, Management Board Chairman of Duravit AG. “In a few years, the bathroom will be inconceivable without this innovation. I am in no doubt whatsoever about that."
Discreet bidet function
SensoWash's bidet function only becomes apparent when opening the toilet lid and looking inside. A stainless steel spray arm offers three different types of shower: the Rearwash leaves you feeling clean and fresh. The Comfortwash offers a more attentive wash that cleanses both with the forward and backward movement of the spray arm or also with a pulsating water jet. The water jet of the Ladywash is specially tailored to female needs, offering particularly gentle cleansing. Water temperature, water volume and nozzle position can all be individually adjusted and, once saved, are easy to select again. Freshly showered, the next stage is the warm, drying air. The spray arm and nozzles are cleaned automatically before and after each use. As a preventative measure, both the stainless-steel spray arm and the toilet seat have an antimicrobial coating.
Intuitively operated remote control
Whether Comfortwash or hot air dryer, Philippe Starck attached particular importance to the design of the wireless, intuitive remote control, which can be used to operate all functions. The three-dimensional alignment of the remote control enables a logical layout of the function keys that, with their clear symbols, are operated intuitively – when selected, the symbols are briefly illuminated. The remote control can be used to open the toilet lid: lift lid, lift seat and lid, close lid – the electrically-operated unit opens and closes automatically at the push of a button. The seat itself is heated and the temperature can be individually controlled. When the user has taken a seat, the desired wash function or dryer is selected by remote control. The arrow keys are used to change the position of the spray arm. Water pressure and dryer, seat and water temperature can be individually adjusted using the +/- keys. Personal preferences can be stored in two profiles, which are then simply selected the next time.
During development, Duravit paid particular attention to safety: a special LED night-light function, for example, provides orientation and safety when it’s dark without interrupting the body’s repose. In addition, SensoWash has a child-safety feature preventing unwanted splashing: a sensor integrated in the seat only allows the function to be used when it recognises the weight of a “real” user. Temperature sensors protect against temperatures getting too high. The SensoWash programme also includes a standby and a power-saving mode.
